Colwich Real Estate Information

A smaller, more rural community in northwest Sedgwick County, Colwich, Kansas, sits in the greater Wichita area. The city is small, but steadily growing. At the time of the 2000 census, it was measured to be home to a population of 1,229; by July 2008, estimates showed the population had grown to 1,407, an increase of almost 15% since the census. 

Colwich sits on an area of 0.7 square miles. The estimated median household income for residents here in 2007 was $56,774, an increase from census figures, when it was $51,346 in 2000. The estimated median value of homes in Colwich was around $130,000 in 2007, up from $90,500 in 2000. The community is primarily homogeneous, with more than 98% of residents Caucasian.

The ages of Colwich's residents is spread out, with 34.9% younger than 18, 6.8% between the ages of 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 14.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% 65 or older. The median age is 31.7 years, younger than the state's average of 35.2, and households here tend to be a  bit larger than the state average, with 3.1 persons per household, versus the Kansas average of 2.5.

Construction, transportation equipment, health care and education are the industries in which the largest number of residents find employment. For emergency medical care and attention,  the nearest hospital is about seven miles away in Wichita. Children who lives here are served by the Renwick Unified School District #267. Two schools, Colwich and St. Marks elementary schools, are physically located within the community.  Colwich Community Library serves the population, as does Colwich City Park, which features a playground, basketball and tennis courts, horseshoe pits and open space and is also home to the weekly farmers market, held on Wednesday nights during the summers.
