Valley Center Real Estate Information
A fast-growing suburban community outside of Wichita, Valley Center, Kansas, sits on an area of 3.3 square miles within Sedgwick County. At the time of the 2000 census, the community was measured to have a population of just over 4,800. However, estimates taken in 2006 showed that the population has grown considerably since then, standing at nearly 6,000.
The community was incorporated on September 29, 1885, and it was named after its location in the valleys along the Arkansas River. Valley Center residents were estimated to have an annual median household income in 2007 of $56,041, up from $50,683 in 2000, while the estimated median value of their houses and condos was $125,556 in 2007, up from $87,400 in 2000.
Many residents in Valley Center find employment in the transportation equipment, health care, education and construction industries in the region. Emergency medical services can be attained at the nearest hospital, which is about eight miles away in Wichita. The Edna Buschow Memorial Library exists to serve residents' media needs.
School-aged children in Valley Center attend one of three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school in the town. Each year, Valley Center throws a Veterans Day celebration and the large and popular Fall Festival. Points of interest include the Greyhound Park Racetrack, the Historical and Cultural Society Historical Museum, McLaughlin Park and Pond, Arrowhead Park and a nine-hole disc golf course. The Valley Center Recreation Commission organizes several classes and courses over the year.
